Ghorbani Zein Al-Abedin

Ayatollah Zein Al-Abedin Ghorbani is the son of Gholam Hussein and he was born on 1933 (1312) in one of the villages of Astaneh Ashrafieh. He learned Quran and Persian till the third grade and books like Seyyed Al-Ensha’, Judi, and others in Maktab (unofficial school) till the age of fourteen while he worked as a farmer. Then he went to Lahijan and commenced education in the Comprehensive school.
He went to Qom and continued his education by famous teachers of seminary when he had learned seminary lessons, such as Soyuti and Moghni in 1949 (1328).
When he passed the primary educations and passed the Ma’alem, he studied Ghavanin (Rules) under Imam Musa Sadr, Lam’e under Ayatollah Nuri and Sotudeh, Rasael and Makaseb under Ayatollah Meshkini, Manzumeh and Hekmat (Wisdom) under Agha Reza Sadr the brother of Imam Musa Sadr, and the other seminary’s teachers, Kyfaiah Vol.1 under Ayatollah Soltani, and Kyfaiah Vol.2 under Ayatollah Mojahedii Tabrizi.
In the rest of his education he attended the Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi’s Extra lesson and wrote a Resaleh (booklet) about Salat Ehtiat (Caution Pray) and passed the test of Extra lesson with a great degree.
He studied Philosophy lessons, Interpretation and a part of Shafa’ (Healing) and several volumes of Asfar book under Ayatollah Allama Tabatabaei in Hojatieh School and Salmasi School and studied the rest of volumes under other teachers and studied Jurisprudence and Principles lesson under Imam Khomeini for eight years. So he was influenced by Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi, Imam Khomeini, and Allama Tabatabaei more than the others.
He gave lectures alongside greats like Ayatollah Meshkini, Ayatollah Mohammadi Gilani and others and educated in the scholars home at the same time since 1957 (1336).
Ayatollah Ghorbani continued preaching and lecturing in Hedayat Mosque in Tehran later and in 1959 (1338) in Bala Mosque of Bazaar, Mianeh Chaal, Ayatollah Razavi Mosque of Kashan, and other cities and provinces like Mazandaran, Gilan, and Khonsar.
Ayatollah Ghorbani became acquainted with Late Navab Safavi in 1952 and 1953 (1331 and 1332) who was the leader of Fadaiaan Islam (Devotees of Islam) who sometimes went to Feizieh School in Qom and talk to students and sometimes participated in congregational Prayer of Late Ayatollah Araki and Zanjani. Ayatollah Ghorbani was influenced by listening to his lectures and reading his book (Islamic State) and he participated in sessions of Fadaieaan Islam (Devotees of Islam) so he was attracted by them and started his political activities during that period.
He was arrested by SAVAK in 1963 (1342) and harassed and humiliated a lot and imprisoned. When he released from SAVAK prison he was forbade giving lectures and Prohibited from leaving the country for five years.
He was imprisoned by SAVAK in 1971 (1350) again and in prison he decided to translate some volumes of Al-Ghadir book by Allama Amini and he translated 5th volume, 9th volume, and 10th volume.
After the Revolution he started his activities by being the head of the Committee of the east of Gilan, then he was elected as the religious judge of Islamic Revolutionary Courts of that province and later he was appointed as the Imam of Lahijan, and he was the representative of Astaneh Ashrafieh people in Majlis Shora Islami (Islamic Consultative Assembly), and the representative of Gilan people in Majlis Khobregan (Assembly of Experts) for three periods. He was appointed as the representative of the Supreme Leader in Gilan and the Imam of Rasht by Ayatollah Kamenei.
